Chongo, the one-eyed male lion surveying his dominion. It was a lazy afternoon, for the lions, to lie around and every now and again raise their eyes to stare down the barrel of the lens. But for me, this was the first time I had seen the intensity in real-time, up close. Its all very well to see the iconic portrait online or printed but to experience it for real is something else. That penetrating stare is what got me. Even if he has only one working eye!
